high - low english roll arm collections

Wednesday, October 22, 2014

I've been browsing for a new sofa lately. I still absolutely love our chesterfield from Chesterfields of England. We've had it for several years and it gets better and softer every day. But I would like to move this into a study in the next house. Who knows where that will be but certainly bigger than our house here in Japan - most are! So we'll need something else for a family space.

Today I noticed that Ikea is debuting an English Roll Arm collection called Stocksund

It can certainly give the look for less compared to the Pottery Barn Carlisle collection.

Love these rooms with Roll Arm sofas.

While shopping for baby linens I came across an Etsy seller whose pillows are a great affordable option for the linen fans of Leontine Linens. Here's the original, pricing in around $400.

If you like the applique style but don't require exact measurements here's one from Etsy seller Calico Daisy priced at $64, two for $100.

Have a great weekend!

One more high-low in the lighting department. I saw this pretty Regal French Chandelier at Wisteria for $280

And another from Pottery Barn, the Mica Filigree Lantern on sale for $150

high-low

I've been thinking of ways to rig up a light fixture over my dining table lately. My current place has a chandelier installed but I'm not keen on it. In the future this will not be the case so I thought something temporary or plug-in would work. At any rate, while browsing I spotted this high-low.

The first the Gothic Lantern by Pottery Barn for around $300

And the Overstock Antique Copper Chandelier for around $150

I was actually thinking of this as something simple. Thoughts? And FYI this is a tutorial I found on how to convert a hardwired fixture to a plug-in. And another.

Double whammy high-low between yesterday and today, because I love you guys and gals. A blog I often read (even though blogger will not let me follow, grr technology) is Brooke Giannetti's Velvet and Linen. I've been reading her blog, and then book, for years. Well the other day she posted this super fantastic visit with Nadine and Lars Bolander. I spotted this little gem in some of her photos.

And it just so happens for the past few weeks I've been looking at these. From World Market for $299, the
Indonesian Bench.

And then Restoration Hardware's 19th Century Chippendale Bench for $1725.
So, how are you celebrating today? I'm always so curious as to how candies and chocolate evolved from a holiday of the saints. Hey better than Capone's massacre, no? Well if you are still looking for a gift, what about this ring set? Just kidding. Happy Valentine's Day.

I'm really liking this room by Phoebe Howard, incorporating the pale blues and quilts. I never was much for handmade quilts. I think they're beautiful and show remarkable skill, but they are often too busy for me. However, this simple design is really quite lovely.

Want to make a simple quilt your own? On sale at Macy's, thank you Martha.

Also, I loved this high-low from Boxwood Clippings. Sadly, the lamp was on clearance so good luck at your local store. However, they still have a similar style of lamp.

The last thing I need is another objet on my desk because you can barely see the surface past the tablecloth of receipts and notes. If however your desk is more orderly, a nice paperweight should polish things off nicely. The classic John Derian for around sixty in a myriad of options.

Or the Z Gallerie for around ten. Plus, they too have quite a few different designs.

And if you want to get really crafty and decoupage your own... ha, this route is not for me.

So a couple weeks ago I posted about Safavieh at Target. Remember? Well I found a very similar piece in the new Pottery Barn Catalog that arrived over the weekend. Here is their new Tudor chair, starting at around nine hundred.

And compare that to the Colin chair by Safavieh retailing on Target's website for just around half in a similar color.

This is an awfully girly post, so apologies in advance. My husband and I are loafing about a bit before an event tonight. The calm before the storm, so the speak. I was browsing some blogs and online stores when I spotted a high-low in women's clothes. Old Navy has their own motorcycle-styled jacket in cotton/nylon, on sale, for around thirty dollars, apparently it was featured in Lucky. Did anyone see that?
Here is Barbour's on sale for around three-hundred dollars. To be sure, it would probably last a lot longer but will cost a bit more. I still have Barbour jackets from my teen years.

Also, managed to get a manicure in Essie's Carry On this morning. I am pretty traditional in my manicure usually. I've even had a manicurist call me "boring" but oh well! Maybe it is because while my car was in the shop this week I had a lot of time to read overly-trendy glossies... I'm kind of liking it, maybe not for always but for fun.

It isn't really cold here but I know at home it is... so I'll turn down my air-con. and pretend! I have always loved plaid blankets and honestly, I still have a wool blanket that was given to me to take to college. So when I saw this at Ikea, I thought that it was such a great way to get a cozy plaid throw on the cheap, for around twenty dollars!

If you want to invest, I'm so loving the Pendleton steamer rugs. My grandparents always kept one in the car. Especially nice when you're not driving yourself! For more throws, you should see Katy Elliott's stop the blanket shop!

I found myself making a trip to a Walmart recently to check out plants since our local greenhouse didn't have much for annuals. I know these stores are not everywhere despite the jokes. I didn't really grow up with Walmart (maybe that's just a testament to my parents) but they seem to be in most towns these days. Anyways, I get a little overwhelmed in such a large store (don't even get me started on Bed Bath and Beyond) so I decided to check their site first to have a "plan of attack" for the trip. In the process I found this little lamp for under fifty dollars, it looks very similar to the Pottery Barn style. So here's the Walmart one.

And here's the Pottery Barn for a little over a hundred for the same sized table lamp.

If you like high-low items, you have to check out Copy Cat Chic. Reichel is the queen of finding a good deal! Also has anyone else noticed the plethora of Pottery Barn catalogs? I don't even shop there regularly but I feel like I could bind them all into a massive coffee table book.

I loved this little Dior ring but for something so frivolous (and let's face it, I can't picture myself wearing this as I grow older, but that's just me) it is a tad difficult to justify the nearly seven hundred dollars. You could buy a pony for that! Well, a very small one.

So while trolling the sale section at Kate Spade (I rarely pay full price for anything, I like to haggle) I saw these lovelies on sale with a similar font. For around fifty, I'll take it!

You can find the the wink, dazzle and ooh la la at the Kate Spade website.

I did not hear any publicity about this but the other day I was browsing on Target's website and noticed that some furniture pieces I had bookmarked to think about, inexpensive club chairs, had a change of description. They added the word "Safavieh" before it! So my guess is that Safavieh decided to sell some design for all type items via Target's website... Absolutely worth a look! Here's the original via the Safavieh website and is listed at their retail site for nearly a $1000.

And here, via Target for around $400. I suggest you type "Safavieh" into their search to see all the items which range from console tables to ottomans.

And in case you are wondering, they have rugs too!

How funny, the original version by Verdura.
The Stella and Dot version is very pretty and very on sale.
The cuffs remind me of when my husband took me to a Verdura exhibit. The brooches were my favorite. The first is a golden sapphire heart and the second a lion's paw shell. I love the use of cabochons and the shell is very old Verdura which used a lot of corals and shells if memory serves me.

I never did get in the habit of wearing jewelry when I was younger. Not even costume/fun things. It seems that I was always around horses and they have a way of making everything just plain dirty - really it seems a lot of bother and a very expensive habit, personally. However, it never hurts to admire how nice it looks on others!

Side note - I adore the colors in that shell brooch. How fun would it be to inspire a room with sapphire blues and coral pinks? And even the cuffs, they could translate into a room with just white walls but by adding splashes of jewel tones in accessories and upholstery, even a rental could just pop.

Photos from Luxist, you can see more pieces from the exhibition here.
