house tour in japan - blank canvas

I wasn't sure if I wanted to share my own personal spaces in cyberspace when I started blogging. I do want to share our apartment now that we're living overseas since there's a lot of little things that I wish I could refer to when I'm discussing odd topics. So this is where we're starting. The walls are seriously white, as is everything else. As you can see, it has a lot of Americanized features. Sure, it isn't what I would design for myself but for a few years overseas, it is great. It is completely new and it  feels big and bright. Try not to faint, I know it is pretty fabulous - just kidding.

There are some things I'm getting used to like the short cabinets where I bump my head pretty much daily. Or the lack of stone counters since I have become accustomed to putting hot things there. I'm not a stainless fanatic so it doesn't bother me, in fact this is a lot easier than what I've always had as far as keeping it clean. I go back and forth on how involved I want to be with decorating. Part of me just wants it to be civilized knowing it is short term. The prettiest feature is the nearby park.

Photos by me, not that you would want to share them.

Hello Ann, I can't help noticing how Westernized you apartment is; it could easily be in the U.S., at least until you describe the low kitchen cabinets! I am looking forward to see how you will personalize this space, and that photo of the park is absolutely beautiful.

I know, I was shocked when we first saw it. Although many friends have Japanese tubs (the nice big soakers). They also have stainless cabinets with grey or blond wood cabinets - much more Japanese. We are the odd ones! The one Western feature I LOVE is that we have a dryer - this was something I was worried about getting initially to be honest. I consider it a creature comfort.

Hi Ann - It looks spacious! Especially for Japan, is that right? I've never been to Japan. I look forward to seeing what you'll do with this. The park is really beautiful. Happy Labor Day weekend :)
Cheers,

It looks great! Neat and clean and you can escape to your own little 'america' when you get overwhelmed and feel homesick.
Wouldn't that kitchen be so much nicer if the cabinets were painted? LOL Always wanting to change something. When your stuff gets in and you unpack it will look much more homey :-) I think it's great to see where our blogging friends rest their heads!

Hye Ann. Please list the stores you will be shopping at in Japan. I'm interested to see how you source the things you desire for your apartment.

Good luck,

Jared
