downtown nest, part 1

The second project I'm working on is a gorgeous, light filled apartment in Manhattan. It will be a love nest for two very dear friends just starting their lives together. The building is really unique, a design project by Phillippe Starck and architect Ismael Leyva with tall ceilings and South-facing windows. So here's what we're working with:

What direction would you take with this? What colors are you seeing? I'm excited to hear more about what our friends have in mind!

Hi Ann, All that stark white in that large space seems cold to me--especially in winter. It also disguises that fact that the space is architecturally interesting, which should be highlighted. Is there some odd perspective in the photos--the ceiling seems very high in the living area, but very low in the bedroom.

Are those your friends' possessions or a previous owners'? They seem to sit uneasily in that huge space, which needs focal points and to be broken up in some way, unless a large open area is required for some purpose.

I agree, those are the previous owner's furnishings but they do look haphazardly placed. I want to create more delineation between the dining and living areas, for sure.

I also agree that some colonewfound help to highlight the beams and walls, even if it were warmer neutrals. Ive been looking at some images of painted cielings in the recessed areas. For some reason the photographs don't convey that the ceilings are all the same 11ft except in the second bedroom.

Very cool space!!! (although not a fan of the cheap looking tile in the baths).
I think it's very new york to keep things very white or neutral and gallery like. Then with cozy furnishings and rugs you bring in interest and color. Just a thought....
What a great loft though!
Parnassus - those are lofted bedrooms - probably one on top of the other or on top of spaces such as kitchens or baths.
