tanbo art

In an attempt to escape unpacking I've been touring the local area with some new expat friends. One of our recent trips was to view tanbo art in Inakadate.

Images by me, please credit if you share, thanks!

Wow. These are just amazing. I'm surprised the natural growth allows for that kind of detail. The view from ground level reminds me of those anamorphic paintings that look like nothing unless you see it from a special vantage point.

I know, they're quite amazing in person. And they're rather inexpensive to see, only about ¥200 per person if you are ever in the region. It is a bit like a natural Magic Eye!

those are amazing! Are the plants some sort of crop or just decorative?

Omgosh! The scale of those!! At first, I didn't know what I was looking at. Very impressive, ambitious and artistic!

How is the nursery coming along, Ann? Have you finalized the furniture / decor?

Cheers,
Loi

Stefan, they're rice plants of different breeds. Part of the field is dedicated to what each breed is like but I sadly couldn't read the signs. They're all harvested actually! In the lobby area (which was blissfully AC'ed) they had a gallery of all the locals celebrating both the planting and the harvest. It was beautiful to see!

Loi, it was at a stand still for a long time with unpacking. Or the lack of unpacking. I'm starting to finally make some headway, thanks for asking. I found another expat who does a lot of hobby sewing since I couldn't find a local seamstress that would do household things - only clothes. I'm really excited though since she is also American it will be so much easier to convey what I'm trying to do! I do however keep buying some random Japanese wooden toys that are a little odd. I'll have to take pictures, they're curiosities!
