wild wisteria

I had to pull over when I saw this wild wisteria growing everywhere. It was climbing over trees and just so beautiful. At this particular spot along the road, I found it climbing several stories along a cliff.

I know this sounds so naive -but even as a kid when we'd go to Europe or wherever - seeing familiar plants in 'exotic' locations is always a let down. Like -shouldn't they have other more EXOTIC plants? haha. When I was a German exchange student in high school I was so upset and depressed that it looked JUST like Pennsylvania. "is that all there is?". This is really lovely though!

That's really hilarious! There are times when II feel like this part of Japan could be Colorado. :)

Hello Ann, It's hard to express how beautiful this wild stand of wisteria is. When I was at college, one of my favorite "secret spots" was an early 19th century house with a large wisteria arbor in the yard, although not nearly as extensive as this. Wisteria is one of those plants that has the ability to create it own special world.
