agateware

Are you familiar with agateware? I was not, I'm still just learning about pottery. I saw this while surfing 1st Dibs. Apparently, it is decorated with a combination of contrasting colored clays to mimic agates, gorgoeus. This example is said to be an early piece of Wegwood's work, dates to circa 1770/80.

Another one with fine details.

oh i always thought it was a French thing! I had no idea Wedgwood made it too. I think Charlotte Moss collects this, thats how I first became aware of it years ago at her shop in NYC (since closed, sadly) and then saw it in a lot of stores in Paris and so just assumed it was French!

Hello Ann, Count on Wedgwood to give us such an elegant example of agateware. In museums here in Taipei, I have seen some very ancient examples of this art.
